A Place of Change 2009

CHC's innovative approach supports and challenges vulnerable and disadvantaged people to take a full and valued part in society. Customers take the lead in their own journey of recovery. They are supported by CHC in active partnership with the local community to have high expectations and to take responsibility for their decisions until they become independent of mainstream services and in control of their lives.

How can we help you today?

  • The design of the resource centre reflects the path customers take as they confront the lifestyle decisions which will enable them to move on.  The building mirrors Maslow's Hierarchy of Need pyramid where a typical journey often starts with meeting basic human needs for medical and social care, clean clothes or a hot meal and ends with fulfilment in education and employment. Customers begin their journey at a level in the centre appropriate to their needs and then choose from a wide range of relevant support services delivered under one roof by CHC staff and partner agencies ranging from therapies to training.  We support customers to recognise their own potential in achieving a satisfactory lifestyle and promote high expectations of success and independence. In return; individuals are empowered to take personal responsibility for change and become the architects of their positive lifestyles.

  • We help our local community own and resolve its problems

  • CHC is in the business of rebuilding lives and developing communities.  Part of that development lies in local residents taking on board that vulnerability is the responsibility of the whole community.  CHC has the resources and experience to manage this new partnership (this new approach to vulnerability) not only through the example of our own support programmes for problematic groups like disadvantaged young people but also by working with local groups, businesses and volunteers to enable them to take a lead on how best vulnerable individuals or disaffected groups can be supported.

  • We deliver benefits to the whole community

  • CHC works in an inclusive way. At a local level, the centre is a resource for all: offering a mix of social activities, new skills and training qualifications and bringing in disparate communities. We enable people to meet and to work together for the good of the community, building community cohesion e.g. we will have homeless people and local residents being  part of the same activity or service.

  • Further afield: we plan to offer our specialist expertise and specialist services to other organisations and neighbourhoods promoting the Place of Change model as the way forward for vulnerable people.

  • We give outstanding value for money

  • CHC believes in adding value.  We work within our means using volunteer effort and working with partners and our local community making the most of every penny.  Above all, we achieve long term positive impacts for our customers by breaking the cycle of dependence and enabling them to find a lasting alternative to poor quality lifestyles.
